If this guy is "sonic the hedgehog" then i guess you could say before i heard this mixtape i was "dr. robotnik." I'm finally starting to come around to the hype around this kid. His conversational freestyle offers an interesting way of listening to music, it feels like hes holding a one sided conversation with whom ever chooses to listen and subconsiously respond.

Hes original to say the least, boasting a "swaggerless swag." im almost positive that hes the first to flip sonic the hedgehog gameplay melodies and tones to create a quality mixtape. when you "enter the hedgehog" charles lets you know early that his "zone" is a unique one, that hes in it by himself and you are only being taken on a journey through it.

His flow is simple with complex content, and his i dont give a fuck persona lets him rap about basically anything he damn well pleases. his sonic personality, and pink clothing stems from the belief that "god is a woman, the color pink is the inside of a womans womb, therefore its the color of life, it takes a man to enter a woman in order to create life, thats how you know god is a woman because she had to create a man in order to enter her, to create a cirle of life, like sonic the hedgehog, cause life goes in a cirle, sonic the hedgehog lives in zones, and as long as he stays in a positive zone he will always win, sonic means sound, hedgehogs burry themselves underground, i'm sonic the hedgehog because i burry myself into sound and music" with an explanation like that you already know hes in a league of his own.

"i'm not a looser i just dont like winning, so i'm here to take over the game." With jimmy iovines (interscope records) check book paired with charles' originality give him a legit shot of doing such. his comfort in his own skin embody's what arists are all about, he puts himself on these videogame tracks and does it well.

On tracks like "ringtone rap" hamilton explains what gives him power, golden objects, in lou of golden rings, which make sonic be the hedgehog he is, charles perfers grammys. while perfecting his flow on mixtapes his lyrical prowess certainly guaratees his future "golden rings".

His swag is far from his fellow dipset/birdgang harlem natives, and this he knows. hes more concerned with the message of his music than his unkept style (a Harlem no no). his style meshes seemlessly on his tracks throughout the tape. he explores different flows and beats on the same tracks. it may seem as if its all just thrown together but with good reason and still manages to flow well.

His cover appearance on XXL proves to his haters that he's official. toted as 1/10 of the next generation of rap by xxl... he is agressively blunt and always speaking his mind.... Sonic the Hamilton is only another installment in his series of mixtales to reaffirm this belief. "Baby Sonic" prolly outlines best his character in life, how/why he got to where he is, and where he wants to go.

I wont interrupt the "happy ending," infact i hope its only the beginning of what could be a great career for this young lyricist.

Review: Kanye West- 808s & Heartbreak

Kanye West has always taken himself seriously, its the fact that his listeners do as well that he gets away with it. Ever since his 2003 debut this college dropout hasn't particularly fit the mold of a traditional rapper; he was a superstar by the time he released his second album and he did it by pushing every one of his eccentricies as far as he pleased, resulting in a persona that was equal parts humble rhymeslinger and boisterus producer. He could be a backpack rapper if his backpack wasn't burberry and his beats weren't so expensive. So no, he couldn't be a backpack rapper, he could only be himself, and thats worked out pretty well so far. On his latest album, the telling 808s & Heartbreak, he's hoping that being himiself will be enough for his audience to hold onto.

He rose to fame producing hit singles for Jay-Z, his flipping of a Jackson 5 sample on "I.Z.Z.O (Hova)" was so beyond recognition that it elevated the simple placement of an older song in a new beat to art: he's believed in the art ever since, his techniques have never remained complacent. Riding the wave of his sped up soul acclaim throughout his first album, he released it's follow up Late Registration to equal amounts of praise. It was here where he truly started distancing himself from his peers, as if being a world renowned producer/rapper wasn't enough; he commissioned Fiona Apple producer Jon Brion for the string section on many songs. This, compiled with his touring live mini-orchestra, put the rapper in a leaugue of his own. The album, much like it's predessecor, was stuffed with a dream team of guests and a running time clocking in at just over an hour. These first two albums showed a true artist in embryoic form; he was throwing every idea he had at the wall and picking up the pieces with minimum restraint, his reach just exceeding his grasp.

If he was growing by leaps and bounds on his first two releases he took a breather before his third, expanding his musical palette and focusing his ambition. Graduation was a sleek 13 songs, with minimal singing guests and only one other rapper in the form of Lil Wayne. Sampling Daft Punk and finding influence in Euro club music, he defeated 50 Cent in a sales "fued" by a mile, further honed his production, gained more acclaim for his lyrics and secured his position as arguably the biggest name in music. Than his world collapsed around him.

2008 hasn't been West's best year, he lost his mother and his fiance of years within the same couple of months and took an unusually long break for a usually prolific artist. He rebounded with guest verses for Lil Wayne and N.E.R.D., but the kicker was his highlighitng spot on Young Jeezy's "Put On". His voice autotuned, he came in at the end of the song, distant in tone but he let his emotions squeak through the electronic babble. "I lost the only other woman that knows me best" and so it continues; in brief three week span West wrote and produced the bulk of 808s, giving it a structured theme in production and lyrics, 808 drums and heartbreak respectively.

According to him making this album was better than commiting suicide (duh) and he feels it necessary to cement his status as a legend in music. He feels he's the "voice of a generation", maybe hes right. He hasn't "made my Thriller yet", the mans got big aspirations, and simply rapping just wont satisfy them.

The album starts with the the over six minute "Say You Will", his vocals drop out halfway through and a choir picks up the pace. 52 minutes later a live freestyle finishes things off. In between these songs is his most cohesive album yet, due to the structure of course, but it never makes a susbatntial dip in quality. He hinges on big hooks throughout, minimalist beats designed for maximum impact, and a slender guest list. Young Jeezy stops by to deliver the only real rapping on "Amazing", while Lil Wayne, West's fellow crooner, goes all Axl Rose on "Tell Everybody That You Know".

He premiered his first single, "Love Lockdown", to close the VMAs this year. The anticipation for new 'Ye was of course high, and when it was revealed the result was muted excitement at best. It was the most minimal song he'd ever made, his voice floating along barely anything but drums, relying on the pitch of his emotions to sell it. And thats 808s & Heartbreak in a nutshell, one of the biggest artist in the world following his depressed muse to find solace in unkown territory. It's a shock not only to fans of his "signature sound", whatever that is, but to his percieved image. Just a couple of years ago he was the young man who uncomfortably stated that "George Bush doesn't care about black people, now we have a black president and his oppinions are nowhere to be found. Hes lost in heartbreak and ahead of his time, waiting for the world to play catchup.

I liked seeing the full band that he says hes gonna employ for his new tour, and segueing from "Milli" into N.E.R.D.'s "Everyone Nose" was pretty cool. Rock Star indeed. Gotta love the Whitney Houston outro too.

Here's the first live performance I've seen of "Mr. Carter". Unfortunately, Jay-Z isn't performing it with him, even though they were in the same building.....There's a couple different stories floating around ranging from Wayne was too fucked up for Jays set so he didn't let him come out all the way to Wayne once again refused to go through security checks so he was late. Either way, I'm still hoping we get to see that moment at some point.

I'm especially digging the tribal drums used on every track, juxtaposed with the synth overload I think It's gonna give the album a very cool feel. For the blatant haters and/or if your just not feeling it, he's releasing his next hip-hop oriented album in June of next year. An unfinished version of another track, Robocop, is on line now too. It sounds like how people would imagine Prince sounding in the future in the 1980's, if that makes any sense.

Is it really coming? It's been so anticipated it's gone past the point of anticipation into irrelevancy and straight back to mythic status; 1999 feels like a loooong time ago. Here's a video of Bishop Lamont overseas premiering what is supposedly the first single off the long awaited (to put it lightly) album.

Dre has appearance been taking piano lessons from Burt Bacharach, and I can't believe I just typed that, but it's Dr. Fucking Dre if he thinks he needs to learn a thing or two more about song composition I'm sure he knows what he's doing. Everyone from Jay-Z to Lil Wayne has appearantly written for this thing, and it could be anything from a "hip-hop opera" to a full fledged gangster rap masterpiece, who knows at this point. Expect appearances from Jay-Z, Nas, Lil Wayne, Eminem, 50 Cent, Snoop and the rest of the usual suspects. It'd be cool to get the game on there but thats just not gonna happen.

Who knows if we'll get a CDQ soon or if this isn't even the first single or even on the album; is all I do know is that if Detox isn't an instant certified classic there are gonna be a lot of angry hip-hop fans.

Young hot awoke a sleeping giant on the battle scence in his feeble efforts to win 25 stacks! Mook cleverly told the story of how young hot got into his mix, then broke down hots first round before he had a chance to spit it (listen to the first round and you'll see how this quickly put hot into a 6 foot grave to climb out of). Young Hots first round simply reiterated everything mook said, his one dimensional raps just werent good enough to sway the crowd back into his favor. mook came strong once again in his second round, while young hots raps rapidly declined. hot looked uneasy and unsure of his raps as he tried hard to look for a punch line that could deliver against mook. the last round mook put hot to bed with rat poison cause he never got up for his last round. young hots eyes were too big for his stomach thinkin he could eat murda with half ass raps and minimal energy.

maybe next time when murda mook battles cassidy on the world series of hip hop it will be exactly that, a battle.

It's been a ridiculous year for Clifford Harris, to say the least. He "lost my daughter and my partner in the same year" and proceeded to get himself entangled in a possible one year jail sentence for illegal purchase of firearms. The impending sentence seems to just keep getting pushed back, it makes me wonder if it was all just one giant promotional tool. Would anybody really be surprised? The gangster image of hip-hop officially started it's death clock when 50 Cent's career started going down the drain. Whether he regains his throne with "Before I Self Destruct" is irrelevant: He will have to rap about something other than shooting people or getting shot to get the now too-hip-for-school teenage crowd to care. His three biggest current competitors all share the same track with him; the triumphant and indie savvy "Swagga Like Us". Lil Wayne is far and away the most popular rapper of the moment and he's so weird and talented that he can easily shed away the gangster image at will. Kanye never had it or wanted it, and thats seemed to work out just fine for him. Jay-Z can pretty much do whatever the fuck he wants, and at this point he's the only rapper to achieve so much and still rap like he has something to rap about; and he does, when he's on. It's thrilling to hear him just delve into a world none of us, including most of his peers, will ever know anything about.

So where does that leave T.I.? Pop superstardom? I think so, and I think he does too. Whether it be the near lack of gangster posturing or the duets with Rihanna and Usher, he seems to recognize that if he is going to keep his momentum he's gonna have to set his sights higher than D-Boy status. If it was all a ploy, it was a miracle of a stunt. If not, even better. He has the leverage to count on peoples sympathy for the hustler gone legit, something Jay perfected twelve years ago. He is in talks to have a reality show documenting his day to day life, which now i guess involves court ordered inspirational speeches to young kids etc. He either can't or doesn't want the full on gangster image anymore, so he's finally getting to what he's always been best at: making massive hits and pretty consistent albums.

Paper trail starts off with the aptly titled 56 Barz; so you see, he still enjoys rapping. Throughout the album he will continue to rap his ass off with Ludacris (whome he thankfully ended their lame fuede with) circling around the great chorus by B.O.B. on "On Top of the World". He proceeds to destroy Shawty Lo's career with "What's Up, What's Happenin", please the girl crowd with Rihanna and bank in on "Lollipop's" success with "Whatever You Like", another pop masterstroke from Jim Jonsin. He lays his famous swagger on thick throughout, check out the Swizz Beatz assisted "Swing Your Rag", "I'm Illy" and "Ready for Whatever." He even manages to find a fresh perspective on the played out notion that being famous is harder than it looks on "My Life, Your Entertainment" with a great chorus from Usher. He's appearing as all things to all listeners, and looking at the soundscan numbers he's not doing a bad job at all. Last time I checked half a million in your first week is the closest any rapper has came to Lil Wayne's ridiculous success with Tha Carter III earlier this year.

I'm sure T.I. would be mad at any review of his latest that didn't mention it's title. Paper Trail. He's writing his lyrics down again. Great, Jay and Wayne don't, Biggie didn't, Pac did. Whatever. It doesn't matter. If there is a noticable difference you can only tell it in the sentimental tracks, which may possibly be the best on the CD. His seemingly off the cuff swag and flow never required written lyrics; but when he sets his mind to conveying the emotions of one of music's biggest starts the results are startling. "No Matter What", with it's ridiculously ill Danja beat, finds T.I. at the height of his lyrical prowess. "You Ain't Missin Nothin" has Drumma Boy employing synths, keys, guitar and a lonely saxaphone to back up what may be Tip at his most vulnerable. It, along with the disc's final track, a duet with a recently absent Justin Timberlake, make a hell of a closer. It's a far cry from My Love pt. 2. It's called "Dead and Gone", and it gives the listener T.I.'s famous double time flow, along with a killer chorus by Timberlake before it develops into full on epic mode.

"I turn my head to the east, i dont see nobody by my side, i turn my head to the west, still nobody by my side, so i turn my head to the north, swallow tha pill that makes it alright, my homies dead and gone, but i think i'm gon' be alright." Hes going all out confessional on this one, but he still wants to have a good time. I don't see any problems for a very, very long time.

I'm assuming the first single off of Akon's new album, tentatively due the same days as Kanye's new CD, but I have a feeling that is gonna get pushed up even more. He supposedly just finished it. As for this track, I'm feeling it, I'm sure it'll be a big hit. Akon and Weezy are all autotuned up, but they both kill it. Is Akon dissing G-Unit? I'm really not trying to reach it just kinda jumped out at me, decide for yourself. So far the "confirmed" guests for Akon's "Freedom" are Wayne, T-Pain and (!) Michael fucking Jackson. Take that with a grain of salt, but what if?

The Blueprint 3, Dec. 2. 50 Cent's "Before I Self Destruct", Dec. 9. Kanye West's "808's & Heartbreak", November 25. Those are just the big names. T.I.'s awesome new CD just dropped, and Jeezy's The Recession was a great dose of pretty much what we expected. My favorite Michigan artist of the moment, Black Milk, is dropping his sophmore ephort "Tronic" on October 28. Peep this, titled The Matrix with Sean Price and Pharoe Monch, with additional scratching by none other than Primo, you already know what it is. Ludacris's "Theater of the Mind" just got pushed back but it will be out before Christmas. Lil Wayne will have Dedication 3 out during this whole mix too, Asher Roth could have his disc out before the end of the year as well. His first single "I Love College" sample's Weezer's "Say It Ain't So" which alredy guarantees magic. It's good, if your into that frat rap kind of thing. Murs' entrance into the big leagues "Murs for President" is amazing, review up soon.

And now for the big news. Eminem and Dr. Dre may release King Mathers and Detox respectively before the end of the year. This won't happen and everyone knows it but thats been the rumor lately. Word has it that Detox's first single may be released in November. 50 Cent also confirmed a track featuring Eminem produced by Dr. Dre titled "Norman Bates Hotel" for his new LP. 50, Em and Dre on the same track for the first time on how long? And it references Psycho! If this all goes down like its supposed to I'm just gonna lock myself to my laptop for the next couple months and die happy.

Wayne's World....Weezy talks Carter IV, Dedication 3

With Tha Carter III pushing the three million sold, Wayne is (unsurprisingly) back in the studio hard at work on Tha Carter IV. We can only assume that it will be released next year after his super group debut album with T-Pain. More importantly for the moment though is confirmation that the long anticipated next iteration in the DJ Drama hosted "Dedication" series will be released before the years end. The aptly titled Dedication 3 will supposedly showcase his ever growing Young Money roster of artists. No comment there, except that I hope we hear alot of Glasses Malone, that Haters song is straight fire. He shows potential outside of just Lil Wayne guest appearances. Anyways, a week after the release of Dedication 3 Wayne is gonna put it on his website for free (as if you were gonna get it any other way) along with 20 extra songs. Go figure.

In other Wayne related news, his ESPN blog is extremely entertaining and oddly inciteful. The Hype Williams (!) directed Mrs. Officer video is also on the way....

is it coming??? i cant feel my face dropping would be a good look for juelz at this point, hes been too quiet (musically) since cam sold that contract to def jam (cant even be mad at king jaffey jo for clearin a quick 2 mil out the deal)
...back to the track....nothing too special from juelz or wayne lyrically but with two copy/pasted bangers for the two to go in on i guess you could say they dropped another heatrock! its wayne as usual basic metaphors but as always so catchy, i think i heard about 10 possible facebook status' ...we'll see
